My two cents on today’s issue

I agree that there are far worse problems in the Philippines than those pertaining to Lady Gaga. I agree that the protestors are out of line on some things with regards to the issue. However, the protestors and Lady Gaga have something in common- it is that they stand firmly in what they believe in even if it means fighting a good fight just to stand up for it. I’m not a fan but I respect Lady Gaga and the influence she makes on the industry. However controversial, she makes sure that the message of being yourself comes across her fans, even if it means accepting criticism on her part. I am dignified, on the other hand, to have protestors fight for the values our country has long held to ensure that the youth would not lose those values despite being exposed to such media. We should all pay homage to their causes and move on. I’m so sick of Filipinos disowning their own country because of being ashamed of what the protestors are doing to Gaga and how it could affect the other foreign artists’ choice of coming here. Aren’t they even ashamed of themselves that they try so hard to withdraw themselves to the society that brought them up just because they want to impress an artist? Not having those protesters would be pretentious of our country, we can’t conceal what our people are fighting for. Many times would Filipinos complain about not having to contest those who go up against our beliefs and now that we are doing so, the people want the contrary? If the Filipinos want a better country, then they have to work damn hard for it rather than just sit around criticizing. Will Rogers once said, ”What the country needs is dirtier fingernails and cleaner minds.” I leave you all with that challenge.

Disclaimer: This is not to hate on Lady Gaga. It is to let the Filipinos be aware of their skepticism towards Nationalism.
